Revolution Series Qualifiers Finished!

FRAG Showcase Event  2009
11-13th December

The competition got underway at about 11am on Saturday morning. 10 teams had signed up and it seemed like it was going to produce some really good games. The format was to be two groups of 5 and the top 2 teams go through to a double elimination bracket. Unfortunate circumstances saw 4 teams drop out after their 1st games.

Double Elimination:

The quarter finals kicked off at around 3pm with Boondocks taking on eCo and BiF going up against CC. Boondocks took an early control and dominated the mix eCo team. CC then went on to demolish BiF and advance to the next round. Clearly the final looked to be between boondocks and CC. The winner’s bracket final saw the much anticipated game of Boondocks vs CC. The match went very one sided and the boondocks came out on top. CC then dropped down to the looser’s bracket to play the winner of the BiF, eCo game. BiF made a strong performance and beat eCo.

Then the last spot in the final was to be decided between CC and BiF. These teams hadn’t played each other yet and didn’t know what to expect. CC came out strong though, redeeming themselves and won comfortably.

The Final took place on the front stage in front of over 300 people at about 8:30pm. From an earlier encounter everybody thought that the boondocks would take the game comfortably. The CC team started strong however taking the first 3 rounds and leading 3-0. Once the boondocks had weapons in their hands and had relaxed they dominated, taking the next 12 rounds making it 12-3 at the half. A short break and the second half got underway. Once again CC started well and took the opening 2 rounds but the boondocks successfully won the next 4 to complete their unbeaten streak in the tournament and take the crown.

Lastly we would like to give a huge shout out to the FRAG team who were so accomadating and helpful.

KING : “This was my first LAN event that I have ever run and I would never have been able to do half the things I did without the help of the FRAG team (Doug and James) as well as Ben for working with me. We will definitely be back for more :)

Big updates.

Stand-Off v1. Panda Security and ISGaming

The competition came to an end on Sunday the 25th as planned. The 3rd/4th playoff game was the first game of the evening with Provoke taking on 501 on de_inferno. The two teams had a mighty battle and 501 became the victorious 3rd placer in RISEUP’s first event.

Then we moved onto the the final. The game was delayed for about an hour due to bravado’s 5th being late and the server being unstable. Once their 5th arrived, we changed servers and the game got underway. The 3 map game began on de_nuke. The boondocks team could not find a strong footing and fell to the bravado team by 16-8.

The second map got underway of de_inferno. The boondocks team knew they had to win this map in order to play the 3rd and fought hard for the win. They secured the win in the end with a score of 16-14.

The third and final map was de_dust2. The not so strong map for the boondocks team ended up falling prey once again to the bravado team and went down 16-9.

We would like to congratulate the Bravado team on winning the first competition of RISEUP and collecting the prizes from Panda Security. Also congratulations to boondocks and 501 for making top 3 finishes and also claiming prizes.

Finally and most importantly we would like to thank Panda Security and ISGaming for supporting us and making this competition happen.

** We would like to formally acknowledge the post that was written on the miNt gaming website. The problems were very over-exaggerated and the players were not irritated by the wait for the 5th. Once the 5th arrived, games got underway within 5 to 10 minutes. The competition did have structure and it worked without any bumps throughout the competition. There were also set rules which all the players were aware of.

Calender:

We will be releasing some exciting news in the coming week with regards to big revolutionary events.

We will also be hosting our next online event in the coming weeks, so keep an eye out of that.

Stage 2 of Stand-Off tournament

There was no summary of last weeks events and so I will quickly run through both weeks before I move onto the Stage 2 details.

Week 7 Results:

1. Bravado took on Provoke. The Provoke team wanted to capitalise on this opportunity and gain as much experience from the encounter as possible. However they learn the hardest of lessons when bravado easily ran through them.

Bravado 16 : 01 ] Provoke

2. Meh set out against Shadow. Meh went into this game wanting to take their first win of the tournament. They also went into the game knowing it was their last as a team. The meh team has since disbanned with their players going in seperate directions. They did come out on top and successfully ended their run. You can catch the meh team members in either the newly formed teamsslak or team.voltz.

Meh 16 : 13 ] Shadow

3. 501 faced off against Hybrid. Hybrid were looking for a win to try and secure their entry into stage 2 but were however faced with a too strong of a rival and went down in a good game.

50116 : 09 ] Hybrid

Week 8 Results:

1. Boondocks took on Hybrid. In the boondocks last game of Stage 1, they went out strongly when they demolished the hybrid team. This kept the hybrid team’s chances down to beating provoke in order to advance, while the boondocks place was secured in stage 2.

Boondocks16 : 05 ] Hybrid

2. 501 ended their stage 1 run by annihilating their last opposition, Shadow. They easily secured their spot in stage 2 while eliminating Shadow from the tournament.

501 16 : 03 ] Shadow

3. Hybrid ended off stage 1 against Provoke. This game was a highly anticipated match where the winning team advanced while the loosing team was eliminated. In a nail biting first half, the hybrid team was on top. The provoke team then set themselves on track again and managed to pull off a very respectable win.

Provoke16 : 14 ] Hybrid

Stage 2:

Stage 2 was originally planned to be a single elimination competition. We have slightly modified it to a double elimination bracket with the top 4 teams from stage 1. Each team will have a set day and time as well as a server and HLTV. All those details are posted on the Stand-Off LIVE page.

The top 4 teams that have advanced:

1. Bravado - 17 points
2. 501 - 15 points
3. Boondocks - 14 points
4. Provoke - 9 points

We have also decided to set the games for each Sunday once again. We have found that this is the most common day for games and the one that will provide the most planning for the teams involved.

This Sunday the 4th we will see:

First spot Bravado taking on third spot Boondocks. These teams drew earlier in the competition and should be a true specticle of a game.

Second spot 501 will face final spot Provoke. Provoke forfeited vs 501 in stage 1 so we can only wait and see what happens.

Just outside the top 4:

5. Hybrid - 6 points
6. Meh - 3 points
7. Shadow - 0 points

RISEUP would like to congratulate those who didn’t advance on their continued support and good sportsmanship. We hope to see all of you in our future events. Best of luck for the future.

2 weeks left in the Stand-Off event

We are coming close to finishing Stage 1 of the Stand-Off tournament and once again we will review the past week’s events and the following weeks fixtures.

Week 6 fixtures:

1. Boondocks vs Provoke. The match was started off strong by the provoke team, taking the opening 3 rounds but the boondocks fought back hard to take the win comfortably. The new boondocks lineup seems to be a strong force but just inexperienced at the moment. The provoke team is also looking strong and could still pull off that win against hybRid. They face them in the final week of play, so the provoke team must aim for that win. This week we see provoke taking on the current leaders, bravado while the boondocks have the week off.

Boondocks [ 16 : 09 ] Provoke

2. Meh vs Hybrid. The match took off at 6:30pm and both teams started strong with meh having the advantage in the beginning. They lost momentum though and ended up losing to the new lineup of Hybrid. Hybrid have lost two strong players ninja and St1nG and will be looking to still take on the strong provoke next week. This week however we see hybRid taking on 501, while meh take on Shadow.

hybRid [ 16 : 13 ] Meh

3. Bravado vs 501. The most highly anticipated game of the week, this game could have gone either way. Both teams are extremely strong and both had strong chances of taking the win. However the bravado team came into week 6 hard, controlling the game comfortably to dominate 501. Bravado are up against the old school provoke team while 501 take on the source team hybRid.

Bravado [ 16 : 06 ] 501

Highlight of week 7:

501 vs hyBrid

The Table:

As we look at the table at the end of week 6 we see bravado on top once again with 14 points with the boondocks trailing 3 points behind. 501 take up the 3rd spot with 9 points from 4 games. The hybRid team have only played 3 games and are placed 4th with 6 points, with 3 games left they could even make a 3rd spot finish by winning all their games.

That’s all for now. Till next week.

RISEUP team.

Teams Under Review: Provoke

As we count down to the end of the Stage 1, we will try to look at all the current teams, breaking down their strengths, weaknesses and then get their personal opinions.

First up we have team ProVoke

The team:
Walter “MaXx” Loubser
Juan “NbzInc” Bouwer
Tiaan “LovelyPimp” Delport
Chris “V4sh” Logan
Jacques “dec1ever” Alant

I have labelled this team in previous posts at the “veterans” and think that still stands. All these players have played for many years and have been out of action for quite some time now. This team is a very relaxed team and should become well co-ordinated under MaXx’s calling. Combined with Nbz.Inc and LovelyPimp up front with the autos, dece1veR and V4sh with their deadly pistols and MaXx with his awp, this team could become quite a good team. Some people may also say that they are too old to become number 1, and that possibly other life issues would stand in their way. However, this team’s future is based solely on what they make of it, and if they are motivated enough to get to the top, there’s no reason why they won’t make it.

Currently in the Stand-Off tournament leading into week 6, they are placed 4th with 3 games left. They began the tournament with a bad start, forfeiting to 501. In their second match, they were faced with yet another forfeit, this time from the opposing team, Shadow. In their first actually game, they fought against team Meh. The team was well warmed up for the game after playing a thrilling game against Killer Instinct in a counter strike source AGASA game just before. They went straight into the game positive and came out on top.

The ProVoke team still has to face current leaders Bravado, the boondocks team and hybRid. As we all know already, provoke has to defeat hybRid in order to advance to the top 4. Although provoke are looking to win all their games, many feel that they are not yet at a stage to beat either the bravado or boondocks teams. Looking at the hybRid team this past week, they have just lost their key player, st1nG who left for personal reasons. So things are looking up for provoke in the coming weeks when they face them. Week 6 however leaves the boondocks in the teams’ way. The boondocks team is mixed with a lot of skilled and experienced players and the provoke team must be on top of their game in order to win.

We caught up with MaXx for a short chat to see how he’s feeling about the current Provoke team and the Stand-Off event.

KING: Hey MaXx, thanks for giving us some of your time. We’ll just quickly run through some of your thoughts and how you along with the provoke team are planning for the upcoming games. First off, how close is the relationships between the members in the team, do you all get along as well know each other’s strengths and weaknesses?

MaXx: Np man. Yeah we all get along very nicely, all of us have quite a big history with each other and the game, so we definately know each other inside out. Of course there are the times where we wanna kill each other, but somehow were all still alive, so thats a good thing.

KING: How do you get your team motivated when playing against teams such as Bravado who are much more experienced and practised as a team? Does everybody feel like they can win such a game? Or are they scared and under pressure? Do you have special methods of control?

MaXx: Most of the guys actually perform better under pressure, and I think they will all agree, that our biggest and best moments of our careers have been against the big teams.  All of us have the skill we need, and we most definately dont lack the experience, however we do lack on the practice side, which is where they will have the upperhand.

KING: Then how do you prepare your team for the in game aspects? How often do you run strat practises? How do you keep your team going if you end up being far behind in a game, pushing them to still win?

MaXx: Like I said before, we hardly ever practice, among three of us we have more than 20years experience together (which of course doesnt mean we dont need pracitce lol) Also none of us really ever gives up, even if it’s 15-1 and we only have glocks, we’ll still fight, it’s just in us, we dont really need motivation.

KING: The RISEUP Stand-Off event is now currently in its 6th week, how have you felt the competition has gone so for the team, are you happy with way the boys are performing?

MaXx: As you’ve said in the beginning, we’ve had a couple of forfeits, cause we really just tossed a salad together and called it pVe. But I think as we’ve shown against meh, we can play a bit more competitively when we get our act together. And from that point of view I think the guys are playing exceptionally well, considering the way we started.

KING: Do you feel that you could overcome the hyBrid team, possibly even the boondocks team, to claim your spot in the top 4 and be in line for a top spot? Do you have any words for the upcoming teams, any warnings to send out?

MaXx: I think as any team would tell you, it comes down to the day. On the day I would say definately yes, if we are nice and phsyced and can keep our act together, we can definately pull it off against them. The other teams are there for a reason, they play really well, and have some momentum to build on aswell, I wont say we will never beat them, however, we are realistic about our aspirations for this comp.

KING: What are your predictions for the overall standings of the tournament?

MaXx: Like I said the top3 teams are there for a reason, and more so bvd. I would have to say Bravado on top, and to be honest, both 501 and Boondocks can take second, so its a hard one to call.

KING: Lastly, I must ask you what you think of the nickname of the “veterans”?

MaXx: Well its only really three of us old boys, but ye, maybe if we pull something off, it will have a nice ring to it.

KING: Thanks for your time MaXx and good luck for the rest of the tournament and the future.

This instalment of the “teams under review” has come to an end. We hope you found it interesting and will look out for our next ones! Good luck to everybody competing.

KING.

Week 5 down, 3 weeks left!

We have reached the final 3 weeks! So far, we’ve had a lot of games, a lot of fun and a lot of tears with that! Reflecting on what happened in week 5:

Team changes:

Boondocks have welcomed VamoozE into the roster. stripflOw will now take up a permanent position in the team too who will join up to post a team with some incredible potential!

Provoke have altered their team a little bit to comply with their counter strike source team. Replacing Iron, UnknowN and Sigh, they have brought in V4sh who is a very old school player.

Games:

A really good week overall in regards to all games being played, no forfeits or drop outs. So well done guys, keep this up. It’s good to see some stability now.

All the games were played last night, Sunday the 6th. The night was kicked off at 6pm with boondocks taking on shadow. The boondocks team showed their strength when they dominated the new team and not letting them get a single round. Although shadow are a new team, they have potential and perhaps once the team has played together they can unite as a team and pull some wins. Boondocks will be up against Provoke this week while shadow have the week off.

Boondocks [ 16 : 00 ] Shadow

The next two games were both at 8pm. On the one server, we had Provoke taking on Meh. The meh team is made up of old school players and the provoke team is made up of even older players so this was the battle of the veterans! A strong performance from AndrewMohawk was not enough to clench the win in the end and the meh team went down narrowly. Meh are up against Hybrid this week while Provoke are facing up to the boondocks.

Provoke [ 16 : 12 ] Meh

On the other RISEUP server, the battle of bravado and Hybrid was taking place. Bravado came into this week after an extremely close game with the boondocks and were ready to get back into the game! Hybrid were not about to step down and took bravado head on. This hybrid team is new on the counter strike 1.6 scene and we can defineatly see signs of progress and should be top contenders next season. Bravado are in for a hard game this week against 501 while hybrid take on meh.

Bravado [ 16 : 10 ] Hybrid

Highlight for week 6:

Bravado taking on 501.

Updated predictions:

I would like to take the opportunity to update my orginial predictions on the tournament after all the drop outs. This is my top 4:

1st: Bravado. They have had an interesting competition, haven’t been on top of their game as past tournaments although this is a team that can practise for a week and beat anybody in their way. If they can put the time into their game, they should then have the experience to win another title. If they don’t however, they will defineatly fall prey to the other 3 teams and most probably place 4th. Their key destroyer: Konvict.

2nd: Boondocks. With the addition of both VamoozE and stripflOw into the starting 5, this team will be very dominant and will pose a strong threat to the other teams. Although their lack of experience together could loose them the game to a well positioned bravado team. 501 could upset the boondocks and push them out of the competition however i feel that the lack of commitment from certain players will prove vital against their form on the day. Their key destroyer: e1u.

3rd. 501. Defineatly the team that could be number 1. Although as mentioned above the team could break down in front of a more “well-practised” team. With some of the top aimers and experienced players in the country, they could very well come and win everything. I am very excited to see how 501 perform against Bravado this week, as that game will tell us a lot about how this tournament could end up. Their key destroyer: Latency.

4th. Hybrid. The new team on the block, they have really impressed me during the competition so far. Their aim and thinking is not yet at the level of the likes of bravado although they do have what it takes to get the 4th spot, or even higher. They had a strong game against bravado and will be up against 501 as well as the boondocks soon so they must keep practise up. Their key destroyer: St1nG.

Wildcard: Provoke. The team is very old school with the likes of MaXx, Nbz.Inc and V4sh and have that old school “dodginess” to them. They have to beat hybrid to secure their way to the top 4. They might only pose small threats to the likes of the boondocks, bravado and 501 teams and so they must put all their focus into overcoming hybRid to advance. Their key player: Nbz.Inc.

Thats all from me, till next week.

RISEUP team.

Entering Week 5

Sorry this is a day late, but here goes:

A very dissapointing week overall. 3 teams have now dropped out which is very sad and unfortunate. iNtensity have dropped their CS1.6 Division after accusations of some of their players hacking and were therefore forced to drop out. We hope that iNtensity can find a suitable team to take their position in the up and coming organisation and are able to participate in future competitions with RISEUP. In addition to dfeKt’s parting, RISEUP have been forced to remove elemeNt from the competition. They have only played 1 of their games in the tournament, drawing to hyBrid and have had to forfeit the rest of their games.

On top of the dropouts, we had a forfeit from Shadow who were unable to be contacted by the ProVoke team. Hopefully they will be back this week.

All this havoc left one game on the list for the whole week, that of the boondocks and bravado. Now I am part of the boondocks team and I apologise if I ramble but I am really proud of how the boys played, so im going to give a decent breakdown of the game.

The map was decided on de_Nuke and the knife round went in favour of the boondocks team, with “KING” pulling 3 knifings in. The boondocks team took CT’s first and began to ready up. Bravado was slow to get off the mark against the strong defense of the boondocks team and were 4-0 down early in the game. Soon they were fighting back hard and good all round performances from the boondocks team pulled in a 8-7 win at the end of the first half. “Konvict” was the main destroyer in the bravado team, taking some vital doubles in several rounds. The second half began in bravado’s favour, winning the opening 2 rounds but the boondocks fought back to match them. The game continued to be in neither of the teams favour, and nearing the end of the match the boondocks were 15-13 up, needing 1 more round to secure victory. The bravado team is not common to loosing and played hard for the last 2 rounds, leaving the game idle at 15-15. The top fragger on the boondocks side in the second half was “e1u” with “Konvict” once again pulling in big kills for his team.

Bravado [ 15 : 15 ] Boondocks

Well, the Shedule has been reconfigured to accomadate all the dropouts and will now run for 8 weeks instead of the proposed 9. So check out the Stand Off LIVE page to see your next opponents.

This weeks fixtures:

Bravado take on hyBrid.
Meh aim at Provoke.
Boondocks face off against Shadow.

Thats all till next week.

RISEUP team.

Week 3 closes, Week 4 Up!

Week 3 has concluded and once again we have some good and bad news. We’ll start with the bad news and develop to the good to leave you in a good mood.

First off, dfeKt have decided to pull out of the tournament. They failed to pitch a team for their week 3 game and so pulled out, unable to pitch for the rest of their games. All the teams that have playd dfeKt would be change to a BYE, meaning no game was played and for those teams that lost to dfeKt, they will be lucky to have the loss taken off their name.

Element is also MIA (Missing in action) once again for week 3, we have no heard confirmation of them dropping out.

The table points are being worked out differently now:

Win: 3 points
Draw: 2 points
Loss: 0 points

The reason for this alteration is because of the dfeKt drop out and it is unfair that teams that are forfeiting are being awarded points for a loss.

Thats all the bad news for this week. Onto the good news.

We had some very interesting challenges occur during the week

1. First off we saw iNtensity take on Shadow. Shadow have failed to get off the mark with a win in the tournament and are hungry for some points this week when they face Provoke. iNtensity will be looking to carry on their good momentum when they face off against hyBrid this week.

iNtensity [ 16 : 05 ] Shadow

2. Next we saw Boondocks take on 501. Both teams were undefeated up to this point and it was matching up to be a really good game. The first half score was close at 9-6 to 501 but unluckily for the boondocks team, they had a drop out for the second half and went down 7-2. 501 have a BYE for this week where the boondocks will be up against the powerhouse bravado.

501 [ 16 : 08 ] Boondocks

3. The final match of the week saw Meh take on bravado. After the first 5 rounds, Meh were up 5-0 and posed a very strong first half score. Unluckily for meh, they fell prey to the experienced bravado team in the second half and failed to gain any momentum. Meh are up against element this week, if the game goes through while bravado will be facing off against the boondocks team.

Bravado [ 16 : 09 ] Meh

At the end of week 3 we see 501 at the top of the table with 9 points closely followed by bravado with 9 points. Claiming the last spot in the top 3 are the boondocks team with 6 points.

Thats all for now.
