With just over 2 weeks left until the big day, here’s a lot more information for those teams competing and those wanting to come watch.
Dates:
As posted before, the eXtreme LAN will open at the Kopanong Hotel & Conference Centre on Friday the 23rd of April and run until Tuesday the 27th. However RISEUP will only begin its games on Saturday the 24th.
Times:
RISEUP will have its servers set up by 4 pm sharp. This will be open for “Warm up” games until 6pm. We will provisionally organise and set up the servers and times for these games however if a team wants to change anything, they are more than welcome to message KING on mIRC with their queries. These warm up games will be announced once all the teams have registered on LanGames website and confirmed their attendance. At 6pm, the official competition will begin and run through 2 games for each team. Thus ending around 8 or 9 pm. This will conclude the days games.
Sunday will then be the main day where games will continue from 10am sharp, all teams having to be set up and ready to go by 9am in case of announcements or changes. As it stands, the Grand Finals will be played on Sunday night.
Format:
RISEUP has developed a new format so as to create more games for all the teams competing. This how it will work:
3 groups will be established with 4 teams in each. Then a simple round robin format will begin with each team playing each other in their designated groups. Following completion, the top 2 teams from each group will move on to stage 2 – Double Elimination. From there, we will look at the teams who placed 3rd in their respective groups and the 2 teams with the highest points and points difference will advance. Thus giving an 8 team double elimination process.
Updates:
All teams that have qualified or invited must register on the LanGames website under the eXtreme Gaming Event for the RISEUP competition. www.LanGames.co.za. Groups will be announced at 5:50 pm on Saturday the 24th so as to not allow teams to learn their opponents before the competition.
Another thing would be to announce that AMD will be sponsoring processors towards the competition and further details of those will be announced soon.
The full team list will be announced hopefully tonight with all competing teams.
KING.

The RISEUP Stand-Off Version 2 has come to an end tonight.
Bravado came through the tournament unbeaten until they met with boondocks in an earlier stage in the competition. They were defeated by the smallest of margins and were forced to the lower bracket. Bravado then dominated their opposition defeating both 501 and ESP to make it to the Grand Finals once again. Boondocks made it through unbeaten and have been unbeaten with their new lineup since last year.
With everybody buzzing, the finals got underway and the first map was de_inferno. After losing the knife round, the boondocks team went on to start well as terrorists and took the opening 3 rounds. Bravado fought back hard though and took majority of the remaining rounds and ended confidently 11-4 up. The second map saw the boondocks team with no momentum and went down without a fight 5-0, losing the map 16-4.
At the beginning of the second map, de_dust2, the boondocks team seemed to have no care for the game and had no focus. The fresh new bravado team took advantage of this attitude and dominated once again to take the half 10-5. The boondocks team fought back a little in the second half but then lost momentum once again to go down 6-3 and once again loose the map, 16-8.
After being defeated in earlier stages, bravado took a swift revenge on the boondocks team to show why they are number 1 in the game. Many argued that the boondocks team were out of practice, with LighteR and sneaK not having stable connections over the past month or two, however the result will remain.
The final placings for the competition are:
1st: Bravado
2nd: Boondocks
3rd: ESP
4th: 501.a
5th/6th: Pantheon
5th/6th: 501.b
7th/8th: zE
7th/8th: motion

The RISEUP Revolution Series has consisted so far of 2 LAN Qualifiers and 1 Currently ongoing Online competition. The 2 Qualifiers were played last year in both Durban and Johannesburg with various teams coming out on top in the platform Counter Strike 1.6. The original plan was to accomadate 8 teams in the LAN finals but this year we have decided to change it to 12 and host the current online league to decide the other qualifying teams. Due to this change, many of the online participants have already qualified for the LAN Finals and the tournament will be taken as a seeding process now. Here is the teams qualified so far:
Qualified on LAN:
1. Boondocks
2. Critical Control
3. Baptism in Fire
4. Xpertz at Total Chaos
Due to the other qualifying teams breaking up, they will not be named. This left 8 spots open for teams participating in the online tournament and these teams have therefore qualified:
5. Bravado
6. Motion
7. zE/mint
8. Pantheon
9. 501.a
10. 501.b
11. ESP
The last spot will be announced soon so keep your eyes on www.RISEUP.co.za for that announcement.
The Finals will be hosted in Durban from the 26th-28th of March in Durban, hosted with FRAG. Our sponsors include Panda Security, SteelSeries and TideMedia. Our plans for the event are a secret for the time being but let us just say that this event will be one that will be well worth it and won’t be forgotten easily. If you have any queries on accomadation, transport, etc, please contact “KING” in mIRC.

RISEUP is happy to announce the first addition to the team with MAD Graphics taking up the designing post.
The first piece will be shown soon so keep your eyes fixed here.
Check them out on the sponsors page! Visit them @ www.mad-graphics.co.za.
The format for RISEUP Stand-Off v2 is as follows:
The top 2 teams from each group will advance
In order to make a 8 team double elimination, the teams who placed 3rd will have a chance to advance and this is how it will work:
The 2 teams (out of the 3) with the highest P.D will advance.
The dates for the Revolution Series has been confirmed!! It will be hosted at Edgewood College Campus from the 26th-28th of March hosted with FRAG! Another update is that instead of the proposed 8 teams we are now going to accomadate 12 teams! This means that all the teams that have entered this online qualifier have acquired invites to the Grand Final. So get planning and you can message KING if you have any further queries. Due to the fact that miNionz dropped out, there is 1 vacant spot and news will follow about which team will be invited to participate. The results from the Stand-Off tournament will be the seedings used to determine groups and so on. So play hard!
We have HUGE plans for the finals so get ready, get the practise in and we’ll see you on the floor!
Lastly I’m just going to run through my predictions for the teams who in my opinion will advance to stage 2:
1. Bravado – Too experienced, too skilled, when it comes down to crunch time, they can pull together. Chief destroyer: Detrony.
2. Boondocks – This Durban based team has a lot of potential. It has also only made one change since its dominating LAN experience at the end of 2009 being undefeated. The newly added SoldieR was part of the boondocks team from its inception back in 2007 and was the teams’ key caller. He is a player who will fall very comfortably into the team. Chief destroyer: anthem.
3. Pantheon – A newly formed team that chooses to play CS:Source over CS1.6 however a team that should not be underestimated. Made up of the 2 former bravado players, korupt and deviaNt, fused with eC’s renound players kustoM, Force and Craan, this team definitely has a lot of potential lurking. It will be interesting to see how a top CS:S team will fair in the CS1.6 scene. Chief destroyer: deviaNt.
4. ESP – Once again back to play the competitions, the last tournament they played was the 2009 AGASA league. No doubt this team is out of form but no doubt that they have the ability to do well. Only 2 changes since that tournament has seen HackeM and fr0st enter. Both of these players are well known for their aim and thinking. Added to the current trio of azterix, Playboy, adr3nalin the team could do very well but remains at my 4th. Chief destroyer: HackeM.
5. 501.a – The team has been around for quite some time now and hasn’t made a change for quite some time. The only issue when it comes down to game time is that there has been no practise before hand. The team has some of the most skilled players including Apollo, lateNcy, blazE and others. No doubt they could pull through and make it to the final however they remain at my number 5 due to the lack of practise. Chief destroyer: LateNcy.
6. motion – The team was recreated shortly before the tournament with a similar lineup to the 1 used in the AGASA league of 2009. This team has a lot of potential however the inactivity of 2 or more members could result in a low final placing. Chief destroyer: e1u.
7. zE – Once again, back from the dead! zE has an ‘interesting’ lineup with the likes of the brother duo Hellhound and stYle from DC mixed with 3 miNt CS:S players: uNreal, zound and merc. All players are not into the CS1.6 scene activitely and that could result in an even lower placing than 7th however if the players can adapt to the game quickly and work as a team, then no doubt they could place higher. Chief destroyer: stYle.
8. 501.b – The 2nd team of the 501 franchise recently added and reformed from the team voltz. Nobody has seen this team in action but it is made up of good individual players, unknown as how they work as a team. Chief destroyer: ShazzChck
KING.
Just a quick update. I am capped at the moment and will post a more lengthly update later on but the competition has begun! CG did cancel however and so there will be 3 teams in the 1 group. Apart from that, play your games as allocated on the Stand-Off page and record your results then give them to KING on mirc. I will be away during this week so please keep your results for when I get back on the weekend.
Good luck!
RISEUP’s 2nd version of the Stand-Off online competition is going really well with registrations. Only 2 days into the week long registration process, the competition has reached 11 teams.
Combined with qualified teams as well as those wanting to qualify, this competition has all of the best teams as well as those up and coming. This will truely be a remarkable tournament.
Without giving away too many secrets, let me just say that many people are going to be shocked with some of the lineups being entered. We have the best current crop of players mixed with the top players from 2 or more years ago. Lineups will be posted when registration closes so keep your eye here!
11/16 spots reserved! Lets make it 16, register now! Visit the Stand-Off page.
It is back!! The Stand-Off competition has come back for its second round and hopefully it will be better than the last! Version 1 got 10 teams registered, lets aim for the full 16!
